What is the chaos recipe?: Selling one rare item of every equipment slot to any vendor returns currency instead of the usual wisdom scrolls. It is the reliable way to turn early rares into something worth having.
Why does the item level matter so much?: The lowest item level in the set decides the reward for the whole set. One piece at level 59 turns a Chaos set into a Chance set, which is why the search filters by band rather than by "rare".
Do the bonuses really stack?: Yes. Unidentified doubles the payout, every piece at 20% quality doubles it again, so a set that is both returns four times the base.
Which slots does a set need?: Two rings, an amulet, a belt, a helmet, gloves, boots, body armour, and either a two-handed weapon or two one-handed ones. The string does not check slots — it finds the items whose level qualifies, and you assemble the set.
